“The power line runs from either shoulder – straight down the length of the arm to the fist knuckle of the little finger, when the fist is doubled. Remember: The power line ends in the fist knuckle of the little finger on either hand. Gaze upon your “pinky” with new respect. You might call that pinky knuckle the exit of your power line – the muzzle of your cannon.”
Jack Dempsey, World Heavyweight Boxing Champion 1919-1926
I am always amazed at the similarities between old-style bare knuckle boxing and Wing Chun principles and techniques.
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised – its science! Physiology plus physics.
Its very clear in Jack Dempsey’s classic book, Championship Fighting.
Sugar Boxing, a website dedicated to analyzing “Mike Tyson and Peek-a-boo by Cus D’Amato” has done a detailed description of Dempsey’s Falling step and powerline theories (theory’s he proved in the ring for many years back in the days before gloves and weight classes).
