Sifu David Peterson has released a new hefty 336 page book called WSL Ving Tsun Kuen Hok through Eric Lilleor’s Mui Fa Publishing, who produces Wing Chun Illustrated.
So far, only the first high-end $99 hardcover edition is available, but regular hardcover as well as paperback and ebook versions will be forthcoming.
Such a glut of riches lately!
First my Sifu’s video (we are still waiting!) and now the first David Peterson book in 15 years.
I still rate his first book, Look Beyond the Pointing Finger: The Combat Philosophy of Wong Shun Leung, as possibly the best Wing Chun book out there. Its blunt and realistic message (straight from the horse’s mouth) is vital for Wing Chun fighters.
Sifu Peterson’s videos are also very good (on Siu Lum Tao and Chum Kiu). As a professional teacher (of languages), he knows how to organize information. For our purposes, as a longtime student of Wong Sifu and a Westerner who speaks both Cantonese and Mandarin, and one who paid attention and took notes, he is an invaluable link to the wisdom of the premiere fighter of the Ip Man lineage.
I’ll get it when it arrives as an ebook and let you know what I think.
Luckily, my own book is taking forever to write, so I won’t have to directly compete with my Sifu’s DVD or Peterson’s book! Besides, as you can tell by the writing in this blog, my way of thinking about Wing Chun is significantly different from both Greg and David’s approaches.
This shows you something about how lineages differ and diverge!
My book will be nothing like either of their productions! So, obviously, you really should have one of each!
